Digital X-ray
Dental X-ray apparatuses are mainly used to detect and control the progression of a dental disease. For example, to diagnose periodontitis, to orientate in an upcoming resection of the root tip, upon placement of prostheses, implantation, or surgical removal of wisdom-teeth. In dental X-ray images from this type of equipment, the images are recorded directly on a storage foil or on a sensor.
For the conversion of X-ray photons to light or directly to impulse voltages, scintillators are used. The digital aid (memory foil / sensors) used for this purpose is very sensitive, so the radiation dose is reduced to 90% compared to conventional X-ray films. The image is available at the moment and can be edited digitally, the contrast can be changed, and blurring can be removed. As a result of this, a much faster and more accurate diagnosis is possible. The records are saved in DICOM format and can be forwarded as needed. This means greater efficiency in everyday practice.
