Periodontal treatment
Periodontology is the science that deals with the discovery and treatment of inflammatory and degenerative changes in the tooth supporting apparatus, which can continue to spread in the jaw and lead to teeth loss. The therapy is a multi-stage treatment. First, it is essential to record periodontal specific refinements in which the depths of the pocket are measured. In the next step, bacterial causes are eliminated. This is usually done in conjunction with a dental hygienist.
Treatment begins in the first step, always conservative, with a professional tool for removing existing accumulations in the periodontal pocket and changing the environment in which bacteria develop. The second phase of treatment runs intensively and is done to prevent re-infection. When correction of bone defects with filling of the bone pockets with a bone substitute is required, a surgical periodontal treatment should be assigned. The last step of the therapy aims at long-term provision of the achieved result by appropriate oral hygiene and recommended prophylaxis, as the patient should undergo supportive periodontal therapy. This therapy should be carried out on an individual schedule, in 3, 4, 6, or 9 months.
